PEPPER EDITH LEVY Age 93, of Verona, PA, on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at the Hanna Healthcare Center in the Longwood at Oakmont retirement community. Edith was born in New York, New York on June 24, 1922, to the late Dr. Nathan Levy and Anna Kurasch Levy. She was preceded in death by her older sister, Florence J. Levy. She is survived by her half-sister, Neicee Singer (Sandy) Schonberger of Lexington, NJ; daughter, Barbara L. (Randy) Dannenfelser of Blairstown, NJ; son, Jeffrey A. (Kathryn) Pepper of Verona, PA; grandchildren, Peter (Melissa) Dannenfelser of Flemington, NJ, Keith Dannenfelser of Lafayette, IN, Katelyn Pepper of Berkeley, CA and Kristopher Pepper of Philadelphia, PA; and great-grandchildren, Lily and Jackson Dannenfelser. She grew up in New York City where her father was a prominent general practitioner. She graduated from Brooklyn College. During World War II she volunteered as a nurse. After the war she and her husband Edward moved to Long Island, opened a hardware store in Huntington, and began raising a family. She worked at the hardware store as a bookkeeper, and after their divorce she continued to support herself through bookkeeping and office work for several firms on Long Island, as well as through skillful investment in the stock market. She was an avid dog trainer and member of the Suffolk Obedience Club on Long Island, winning dozens of trophies in obedience trials in the United States, Canada and Bermuda. At age 70 she began training her dogs in agility and tracking, and successfully competed until she was in her mid 80's. She also was a skilled designer and maker of stained glass, making items for friends and selling them at dog shows and craft fairs as "Dogs of Class in Glass". She moved to the Pittsburgh area in 2010, and lived independently at Longwood at Oakmont for four years, until moving to Hanna Healthcare Center. Services at RALPH SCHUGAR CHAPEL, INC., 5509 Centre Avenue, Shadyside on Friday at 11 a.m. Visitation one hour prior to services (10-11 a.m.). Interment PRIVATE.
