KOPCHIK IRENE AGE 98, PASSED A...

KOPCHIK IRENE Age 98, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 1, 2015, at Reformed Presbyterian Home, Pittsburgh, surrounded by her family. She was born August 20, 1917, in Anita, PA, to Michael and Susan Shema, who were among the many that entered the United States through Ellis Island. She enjoyed telling stories of growing up on her grandfather's farm. She wed Peter Kopchik in 1940 and they spent most of their happily married life in White Township, Beaver Falls, PA. After Peter retired they both stayed active with long walks in the local parks at least five days a week, plus traveling in the United States and Europe. Irene's biggest joy in life was her family. She delighted in cooking and baking for family and friends. Her hobbies included knitting, sewing, and reading mystery books. Irene and her husband were members of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church. Irene is survived by a son, Richard and his wife, Joan Saba Kopchik of Southampton, PA; a daughter, Eileen Kopchik and her husband, Warren Fugate of Pittsburgh; two grandchildren, David and his wife, Christine Preston Kopchik of Saylorsburg, PA, and Ann Kopchik of Pittsburgh; a great-granddaughter, Giovanna Kopchik; sister-in- law, Delphine Shema of Milton, DE; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by Peter, her beloved husband of 68 years; two sisters, Margaret Grabany and Mary Duminske; and six brothers, Alex, Nicholas, George, Theodore, John, and Edward Shema. Friends will be received on Friday from 2-6 p.m. in the JOHN SYKA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge, from where a prayer will be offered on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Divine Liturgy for the repose of her soul at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, with Rev. Joseph Raptosh Officiating. A Parastas will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. in the Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Economy Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, 624 Park Road, Ambridge, PA 15003.
