KNIESS CAROLE A. On Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015, peacefully, surrounded by loving family. Loving and devoted wife of Richard Kniess; mother to the joy of her life, Ryan R. (Ana) Kniess; daughter of Thomas A. Morris and Margaret (Frank) Dzik; daughter-in-law of George (the late Muriel) Kniess; stepmother to Holly and Erin Kniess; sister to Susan (Kerry Browne) Ferrare, Linda (Harry) Santoline, and Thomas S. (Tammy) Morris; sister-in-law to Ron (Jackie) Kniess, Debbie (Donald) Greco, and Diane (John) Pavolich; aunt and grandmother to many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. And we cannot forget her loving puggle, "Shelby-Bear." Carole had a long and successful career at U.S. Steel, spanning 40 years. She began her career just shy of her 18th birthday, and through hard work, dedication, and achieving a Bachelor of Science from Carlow College, was promoted to increasing positions of responsibility, eventually becoming Senior Buyer in the Purchasing Department, where she was responsible for the procurement of many goods and services for the company. Carole enjoyed many hobbies, but was always drawn to the water and sun, and spent many years boating on the rivers of Pittsburgh and elsewhere. She most enjoyed her beach vacations and became a certified scuba diver in her quest to explore the ocean waters. Despite all of her hobbies, most important to her was planning and participating in family picnics and holiday functions, as she treasured family times. Carole was a strong and devoted wife, mother, sibling, aunt and grandmother. She will be remembered for her giving ways and a smile that could light up a room. Family and friends will be received at the JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, INC., 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, 15236, on Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., where a Funeral Ceremony will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested donations be made to the Western PA Humane Society, (1101 Western Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15233). Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
