SCHELL BARRY G. After a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) Barry passed away in his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, December 22, 2015. Barry was born on August 11, 1940, to the late Arabella Artis Keenan. At age three he was adopted and lovingly raised by the late Frank and Margaret Schell. He is survived by the great love of his life (his wife of 54 years), Dolores Obermeier Schell; and his children, Paul, Barry, Jr., Frank, Joyce Douglas and her husband, Marty; brother, Sam Keenan; and brother-in-law, Walter Obermeier; Barry is also survived by six cherished grandchildren, Kathryn, Frank II, Christine, Michael, Barry III and Leah. After graduating from North Hill High School in 1959, Barry proudly served his country as a United States Marine. His journey then took him back to North Hills School District as an electrician where he was promoted to Director of Building and Grounds. After 33 years he retired only to be rehired as a consultant for an additional two years, overseeing the renovation of Martorelli Stadium. Loved by many, Barry was not only generous and caring to his family but also to all who knew him. Barry believed his West View community was "God's Country." He was proud to not only build his own home within its boundaries but to also volunteer his time and effort in various capacities. In 1972, Barry joined and remained a member of West View Fire Department and served in different capacities throughout his life including Fire Marshal for 21 years and president for 22 years. In 1978 Barry became one of the original board members of Ross/West View EMSA and once again served in various roles for 21 years including president. In 1999 he was elected to West View Borough Council where he served in various leadership positions including president for the past six years. In addition, Barry was the borough electrician and enthusiastically participated in volunteer roles for numerous local celebrations and other needs of the community. To his family he will be best remembered for his laughter and his uncanny ability to know when to teach, when to praise and yes, when to "Lecture." To his community he will forever be remembered as "Mr. Fix-it" as well as one of the nicest, kindest, and most helpful guys one could meet. His family would like to express their profound gratitude to the West View community for renaming Bronx Field to Barry G. Schell Field. In addition, they are also grateful for everyone who took the time to visit, send a card, or helped in some manner during the past six months. Family will welcome friends Saturday 6-9 p.m. and Sunday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at SCHELLHAAS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 388 Center Ave., West View, 15229.
