
SHIVELY JOSEPHINE MARIE Of the South Hills, died on January 18, 2016, at the age of 80, of complications following a stroke. Josie moved to Pittsburgh after graduating from Spring Valley High School in New York. She majored in Anthropology at Pitt and enjoyed visiting Pittsburgh's museums and jazz clubs, attending poetry readings and living in Shadyside. After graduation, Josie began a series of jobs including working with autistic children, teaching second grade and serving as a caseworker at the Department of Public Welfare. Josie met her late husband, John, at the University of Pittsburgh and they were married in 1964. In 1975, their daughter, Jennifer was born. Jennifer, her husband, George, and their young sons live in the family home. Her hobbies and interests included the study of Chinese cooking, for which she earned a cooking school diploma in China in 1980, traveling abroad, and following politics. Josie was proud of her French heritage and loved being a homemaker and spending time with family. Arrangements by BEINHAUERS were held privately. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
