RIDDLE BRIAN K. Of Forest, VA, formerly of Hempfield, age 39, died at his home on Valentine's Day, Sunday, February 14, 2016. Beloved son of John and Barbara (Lis) Riddle of Forest; dear grandson of Lundie Riddle of AL and the late Charles M. Riddle; and also the late Michael and late Regina Lis; admired brother of Mathew Riddle of Clayton, NC and Justin (Penny) Riddle of Lorton, VA; proud uncle of Christian, Joshua, Paul and Luke Riddle. Brian was a graduate of Hempfield High School and the University of Pittsburgh. He was a former employee of Highmark, downtown Pittsburgh. For nearly 40 years, Brian struggled to overcome a rare disease called Cystinosis that offered constant torment. He refused to be a victim and ignored doctors who told him to avoid playing hockey and taking part in the typical activities of his peers. Brian worked his way through college, overcame the emotional highs and lows of enduring three kidney transplants which failed, built a house, and was completely self sufficient throughout years of home peritoneal dialysis while working full time. Unfortunately, he encountered a life-altering reaction to his treatment. Despite losing all that he worked to attain, his health, home, and independence, Brian turned his struggles into lessons to be shared by the dialysis community. He founded Dialysis Discussion Uncensored and grew it to nearly 10,000 active worldwide participants. Brian was a pioneer in home dialysis and a keynote speaker during annual conferences prior to complete health failure. Through all of these trials and tribulations, he remained faithful to his Lord and Savior to his last breath. Friends welcome Friday from 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at PATRICK T. LANIGAN FUNERAL HOME, 700 Linden Ave. at Cable, East Pittsburgh, PA 15112, 412-824-8800 where a Funeral Service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Brian will be laid to rest in Braddock Catholic Cemetery. Brian's family appreciates memorial donations to the Cystinosis Foundation, 58 Miramonte Dr., Moraga, CA 94556 or www.cystinosis .com. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
