HARRISON MARY LORETTA Age 80, formerly of Strasburg, PA, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 10, 2015. She was a resident at the Masonic Villages in Elizabethtown. She was born August 15, 1934, in Pittsburgh, PA, and was the daughter of the late Matthew G. McCoy and Mary Loretta (Powers) McCoy. She was married to the late James W. Harrison. She was a 1952 graduate of Penn Hills High School and attended the University of Pittsburgh. She worked at the Gulf Oil Company in Pittsburgh, PA and was the first person in the Patent Office of Gulf Oil to use an electric typewriter! In 1962, she moved to Venezuela with her husband. While living there, she supplied a free library by having friends and family ship books from the United States for loan in her village. In addition, she was a Girl Scout Leader in Pittsburgh, PA, and subsequently started a Girl Scout Troop in her village in Venezuela and several other new Troops throughout South America. She was a leader and a role model for girls who spoke seven different languages. She was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. Upon her return to the United States in 1969, she lived in Edison, NJ, and in 1971 she relocated to Strasburg, PA and opened the business office at the Strasburg Railroad Company. She retired from the Strasburg Railroad Company in 2002 after 32 years of service. She was a member of the Lancaster Primetime Chapter of the American Business Women's Association and was honored by them as the 2010 Woman of the Year. Further, she was a charter and life member of Friends of the Railroad Museum, having served multiple terms on the board of directors and received the 2001 Volunteer of the Year Award from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission and a 2002 Pennsylvania House of Representatives Citation for service, leadership and achievement. She was dedicated to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania and gave countless volunteer hours in the archives and provided hospitality at important events. She was a life member and served on the Board of Directors for the Strasburg Historical Society, as a volunteer in the Strasburg Auxiliary to Lancaster General Hospital and was a member of the National Model Railroad Association. She was also active at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, serving on the Altar Guild, Caring Shepherds and Senior Shepherds, Block Party Committee, Shut-in Cookie Committee and the Organ Taskforce. She was a life member of the Lutheran Historical Society of Lancaster County. She is survived by her siblings, John R. McCoy (Kathleen), Camarillo, CA, Robert G. McCoy, (Margaret), Tarpin Springs, FL, Patricia McCoy Gill (Fred Schweihofer), Sligo, PA, Dennis E. McCoy (Edna), New Port Richey, FL. She is also survived by an extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as her good friends, Kim Cambareri, Marietta, PA, and Eric Kline, Lancaster, PA.
