LAUCK DONALD GROFF, Jr. Age 82, passed away peacefully at his new home in Arizona on August 21, 2015. He and his wife, Carol, recently moved to Phoenix from their beloved Pittsburgh to be close to family. Don was born on January 15, 1933, at Magee Hospital, Pittsburgh. In 1954, he graduated from Penn State University where he began his lifelong passion as a Nittany Lions fan and was President of Delta Upsilon Fraternity. After serving as an officer in the U.S. Air Force, he had a 30-year career with U.S. Steel Corporation, was Secretary of Longue Vue Club Board of Governors, President of Little Lake Manor Company and was a member of Southminster Presbyterian Church and the Duquesne Club. Golf was his favorite pastime, with two holes-in-one to his credit. He avidly followed all of Pittsburgh's professional sports teams, as well as Penn State football. During years of community service, volunteering as coach of church league basketball and Junior baseball, he also served as President of Mt. Lebanon Board of School Directors and President of the Board of Pathfinder School. He is survived by Carol, his wife of 60 years; his daughter, Kay; and son-in law, Lars-Goran Palmgren; his daughter, Nancy, and son-in-law, Joe Conte; and grandsons, Mark, Chris and Gregory. He loved spending time at the family cabin in Somerset, reading and talking about history and proudly supporting the accomplishments of his family. Don set an example for all who knew him, that it was important to show up on time (early!), work hard, be fair and treat everyone with respect. He will be buried in the National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix. Memorial donations may be made to the Penn State Alumni Association and Little Lake Theatre Company.
