JEAN M. (SANDROVICH) MADIA Age 65, of Pine Township on Thursday, August 29, 2019, left this world for a better place in the arms of her Savior. She was the beloved wife of Frank J. Madia for 45 years. Jean was the dear and loving mother of Sarah and Luke Madia and a model mother-in-law to Amy Madia. Becoming a grandma to Lana, Max and Leia was a highlight of her life. Caring sister of Stephen (Diane) Sandrovich and Rosemary (Lee) Marshall and loving aunt to Molly Wetmore, Barry McLaughlin, Scott and Nick Marshall. Jean was the dear sister-in-law to Rosemary (Bill) McLaughlin and Jim Madia. Jean worked behind the scenes to help keep Madia Homes, Inc., humming along since its beginning. Jean was a generous, kind and faith filled person who was bighearted and a special friend to many. Her quiet reserved personality belied her quirky sense of humor. Family will receive friends on Saturday, September 7, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Allison Park Church, 2326 Duncan Avenue, Allison Park, PA 15101. Memorial service to follow. WILLIAM ALBERT KIRK Age 72, of Franklin Park, beloved husband to Ruth Kirk. Also survived by his son, Ryan (Anna Littlefield) Kirk of Wilmington, Delaware and grand-pup, Atlas. Predeceased by his mother and father, Helen Stickel Kirk of New Castle, PA, and F. Albert Kirk of Belfast, Ireland. William was a draftsman with Richardson, Gordon and Associates and later, a financial planner at Ameriprise. William was an active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wexford, where he served on the church council and call committee, and was chairman of the property committee. He was a trustee for the McKinley Stuckrath Lodge No. 318, Free & Accepted Masons, and volunteered as a Cub Scout leader with Pack 171 of Ingomar, PA. An avid vintage sports car enthusiast, William was a member of the Greater Pittsburgh MG Club, and a long-time patron of the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, where in recent years he volunteered with the patron parking committee. Friends received Tuesday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at SIMONS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 7720 Perry Highway. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2500 Brandt School Road, Wexford. MARY E. (BARTOS) PALAMONE Age 91, of Monroeville, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2019. Beloved wife of the late Louis Palamone; loving mother of Christine M. Palamone and Janet L. Palamone; sister of Agnes Pelcher, and the late Helen LaGorga, Albert and John Bartos; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mary graduated from Etna High School and had worked at Abbott Laboratories as a secretary for several years. She was an active member of the Catholic Church and a longtime member of the Catholic Daughters of America: Court St Rene (Senior and Junior), and volunteered at North American Martyrs School as a librarian assistant and had participated in many other volunteer activities. Mary loved handmade crafts and was always learning new skills at the Homemakers Association. She took this love for creative handcrafts and displayed her works at many craft shows in the local Pittsburgh areas. Mary and her late husband Lou were excellent dancers. They would enjoy Ballroom at dance halls and Polka parties throughout the year. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the GENE H. CORL INC. DR. DOROTHY J. POLLOCK Age 94, of New Wilmington, PA, died on Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at Shenango on the Green. Born in McKeesport, PA on April 11, 1925, she was the daughter of John M. Pollock and Helen Kistler Pollock, and she lived in McKeesport until she moved to Shenango on the Green in 2002. Dorothy had degrees in Chemistry from Westminster College and the University of Cincinnati. Her career in polymer chemistry research was spent at Mellon Institute of Industrial Research, Koppers Company, and Atlantic Richfield Co. where she was supervisor of the Polymer Characterization Molecular Structure Division. She began her career at a time when, as a woman, she was a pioneer in polymer scientific research. She co-authored a book, and authored and presented many technical papers at national and international meetings. Dorothy was a bridge player, and an avid bowler, and a tournament golfer, including long time membership and competition in the Western Pennsylvania Women's Golf Association as a member of Youghiogheny Country Club. An active Presbyterian, she served many years as an elder and teacher, and as a church administrator, Chair of the Higher Education Committee of the Synod and a Commissioner. She was a member of McKeesport Women's Club, McKeesport College Club, White Oak Planning Commission, McKeesport Heritage Center, Meals on Wheels, McKeesport Symphony Auxiliary and Westminster College Women's Club. Dorothy was also the first Association President and Historian at Shenango on the Green, and a member of Thursday Club of New Wilmington. She was a longtime generous alumna and volunteer as an Advancement Associate at Westminster College in the alumni and development sections of the Institutional Advancement Division. She served on the Alumni Council and the Board of Trustees. She received the McKeesport High School Hall of Fame Award, and from Westminster College the Alumni Achievement Award, and in 2004 as the Commencement speaker, she was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Public Service. Dorothy is survived by her sister-in-law, Anne Pollock; nephews, Robert (Stephanie) Pollock and William (Shannon) Pollock; and nieces, Catherine Chase and Beth (Wayne) Lewis. Her brother, John S. Pollock, preceded her in death. There will be no viewing. The burial will be at Penn Lincoln Memorial Park in North Huntingdon, PA on Tuesday, September 3, at 2 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at New Wilmington Presbyterian Church on October 11, 2019 at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Westminster College Scholarship Fund, Shenango Presbyterian Senior Care Benevolent Fund, or New Wilmington Presbyterian Church. ROBERT P. "BOB" JONES, SR. Age 76, of Finleyville died Saturday, August 31, 2019 at his home. He was born August 20, 1943 in Youngstown, OH; a son of the late Paul and Roberta Fowler Jones. Mr. Jones was retired as a data supervisor with Calgon Corporation in Pittsburgh. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and was a member of American Legion Post 613 in Finleyville, where he had served as Vice Commander, and was the Executive Director of the Finleyville-Union Township military banner program honoring numerous hometown veterans. Surviving is his wife, Carole Smith Jones; two sons, Robert Jones, Jr. (April) of Finleyville and Craig Jones (Lynn) of Bethel Park; a sister, Diane Schuller of Boardman, OH; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Deceased, in addition to his parents, is a sister, Sally Luxon. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at KEGEL FUNERAL HOME, INC., Tim P. Kegel, Supervisor, David P. DOROTHY A. MILLER Born July 12, 1929, age 90, passed peacefully into heaven with family by her side at Vincentian de Marillac nursing home on Saturday, August 31, 2019. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Mayme and Al Miller and her sister, Margaret “Peggy” LeDonne. She is survived by her sister, Helen Shields and her much loved nieces and nephews, Karen and Bill Griffith, Jim and Debbie LeDonne, Michael and Cheryl LeDonne, Bob LeDonne, Vinnie and Susan LeDonne, Darby Shields and Jennifer Plauche, Barry Shields and Karen Kaighin, Douglas and Briget Shields, Ann Shields and Stuart Demanski, Greg and Myla Shields and, many great and grandnieces and nephews. Dorothy was a journalist (Mt. Lebanon News), publicist (United Way), social worker (Community Action Pittsburgh) and, publisher (New Pittsburgh Publications) of the Rich/Man Poor Man Guide to Pittsburgh and Pleasures of Pittsburgh Event Calendar. She was also a lifelong social activist, notably with Amnesty International-Group 39 and, a founder of the Diocese of Pittsburgh's Race and Reconciliation Dialogue Group. WILLIAM CARTER GLENN Age 75, of Munhall passed away on Friday, August 30, 2019. Born on September 18, 1943, to William and Camenza (Dean) Glenn; loving husband of 53 years to Lucille (Lulu) Savolskis Glenn; father to Carter (Charity) Glenn, Rebecca (Paul) Caimano, Matthew (Jeanne) Glenn, Jonathan (Brandy) Glenn, Lucas (Lora) Glenn; loving PaPa to 22 grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents and a sister, Marcia (Bernie) Bartek. Bill graduated from Munhall High School, Villanova University, and Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. He was a Funeral Director and owner of Savolskis, Wasik, Glenn for 49 years. His many interests included photography, his own Shipwrecks treasure salvage company, and coaching Little League baseball. Bill was an active supporter and board member for Young Life Ministries. He was the head of the Missions Board at Calvary Baptist Church and organized several missions trips to Jamaica including the establishment of a new church in Short Hills. He also helped start the Community Care Pregnancy Center in Homestead. He accomplished many things in his life, but he considered his greatest joy to be his family, friends, and, most of all, knowing Jesus. SHERRY LEE (TRASP) KISIC Age 66, a lifelong resident of Coal Valley Road in Jefferson Hills, PA, died suddenly on August 30, 2019, at Jefferson Hospital. Born January 21, 1953, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Mavis (Pierce) Trasp. Although afflicted by polio as an infant and confined to a wheelchair all her life with numerous medical struggles, she maintained such a positive and joyful outlook for living and shared her generous and giving nature to all who knew her. We were all proud of what she considered one of her biggest accomplishments - learning to drive an adaptive equipped van at the age of 50. She lived at Lawson Nursing Home for the past year of her life and was a favorite of residents and staff alike. Sherry was a loyal, lifelong friend to many, and was described by her favorite teacher as “one of the brightest stars in my life. I was a better person because of her and I will miss her immensely.” In addition to her loving husband, John, survivors include her brother, Fred Trasp, Jr. (Jeanne) of Aliquippa; and sister, Sheila Trasp (Jim Bizila) of Pleasant Hills; nieces and nephews, Sherry Steele (Frank), Tom Trasp (Heather), Allison Trasp, Fred J. Trasp (Heather), and Erik Trasp (Marissa); “daughter of her heart” Kayla; many great-nieces and nephews; and many loving cousins and friends. She was an avid tennis player and enjoyed traveling, having visited countries in all four hemispheres. PAUL A. McWILLIAMS The world lost a gentleman and a gentle man as Paul A. McWilliams left us to be with the angels on Thursday, August 29, 2019. He was the hero and cherished father of Paula McWilliams, beloved husband of the late Germaine; brother of Charles, Tom and the late Bob McWilliams; godfather of John Kelly; father-like presence to Shirley and Leslie; and Papap to Toby. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Anna McWilliams. Words truly cannot do justice to the impact his life had on those who loved him. We shall always remember his intellect, philanthropy, humor, extraordinary heart and, like his wife Germaine, his most marked characteristic - compassion. We know he is surrounded by books and loved ones who have gone before, having a fine cigar and walking his beloved Tad. He will forever be in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him - suffice it to say that the world of his daughter, family and friends will never be quite the same again. HELEN C. BALOURIS Age 92, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on August 31, 2019. She was born in Braddock, PA on July 3, 1927, to Christ and Maria Stambolis. Helen is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Anthony Balouris. She is also survived by her children, Dr. Christ (Kathy) Balouris, Paula (Gerri) Valliant, Presvytera Maria (Fr. Philemon) Patitsas, Dr. Constantine (Diane) Balouris, Dr. Sondra Balouris (Dr. Clifford Brubaker) and Athena (Munish) Grover, as well as nephew, Christos Georgiou from Greece who lived with the family for many years. Helen is also survived by her 15 grandchildren, Marielena, Antonios, Yanni, Eleni, Maria, Alexandra, Anna, Nicholas, Eleni, Markella, Anthony, Elaina, Demetrios, Nicholas and Chrysanthi; three great-grandchildren, Georgiana, Maria, and Nikolas, and a large extended family of nieces and nephews, both here and in Greece. She also is survived by her sister, Theodora Stambolis. A lifelong Pittsburgh Pirates fan, Helen was known for her engaging personality, elegant style, and unwavering love and devotion to her family. She helped husband Anthony with the family business, The Bellevue Restaurant, for 38 years. An active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Helen was involved with many of the philanthropic, social, and community activities of the parish. In her later years, she worked at Balouris Eye Center, where her pleasant voice and cheerful disposition touched patients and staff. Helen was preceded in death by daughter, Alexandra; brothers, Angelo and Gus Stambolis; and sisters, Sophia Libbos and Alice Tzanetakos. Special thanks to caregivers, Katina and Robin. ANNABEL RAE "ANNIE" WHITTINGHAM Annie gained her angel wings on Thursday, August 29, 2019, at age five. Annie was a beautiful little girl with golden ringlets of hair that cascaded down her back, unforgettable baby blue eyes, and the sweetest smile that lit up her entire face. Annie adored her big sister, Sadie, all of her many cousins and friends, and of course her dog, Willow. She was happiest when swimming at the pool, playing soccer, and surrounded by her American Girl Dolls. Annie was known by her family to be vibrant, loving, and was kind to everyone she encountered. Nobody gave a better more welcoming hug than Annie. To know Annie, was to love her. Precious daughter of Stephen and Abagael S. Whittingham; sister of Sadie Jane Whittingham; granddaughter of Bob and Cindy Whittingham and Barney and Claudette Silverman; niece of Corrie and Effrum Garnett, Megan and Justin Sigal, Seth and Annina Silverman, and Bryce and Natalie Whittingham; cousin of Quintin, Zoie, Luke, Cooper, Jax, Leo, Cami and Livie. Georgene was preceded in death by her parents, George and Nora (Costello) Petrovay. Georgene was a former employee of Guentert's Bakery in Braddock and retired as a switchboard operator from Braddock Hospital. Haefner (StarLene) and Sylvia Bordt; grandfather of Amanda Boyd and Regis James Haefner (Molle); great-grandfather of Alyssa and Colin Boyd. Preceded in death by brothers, Paul and Charles Haefner and sister, Rita Modrak. Regis was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship award from the Lions Club. ALMA J. (BRUMBAUGH) SWICK Age 79, of Brookline, passed peacefully at her home surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer, on Sunday, September 1, 2019. Loving wife of the late Richard; cherished mother of Richard, Jr. (Ginna), David (Jill), Robert, Julie Capatolla (Dan) and John (Laura); dear sister of Eileen Tolone, Blanche Aulerich, Donna Saunders and the late Nancy Lydon; sister-in-law of Patricia Neal; adoring grandmother of Ryan Swick, Alyssa Yagulli (Adam), Amanda Heinzman (TJ), Wyatt, Jacob, Megan and Kailey Swick; a special great-grandmother to Max and Logan Yagulli and Nolan Heinzman; treasured aunt, cousin and friend of many. Alma was an avid bowler and a loyal Pittsburgh sports fan.
