Since 1969, John had been an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), holding various local and state leadership positions as an advocate for veterans, their families and active duty military. PAUL A. McWILLIAMS The world lost a gentleman and a gentle man as Paul A. McWilliams left us to be with the angels on Thursday, August 29, 2019. He was the hero and cherished father of Paula McWilliams, beloved husband of the late Germaine; brother of Charles, Tom and the late Bob McWilliams; godfather of John Kelly; father-like presence to Shirley and Leslie; and Papap to Toby. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Anna McWilliams. Words truly cannot do justice to the impact his life had on those who loved him. We shall always remember his intellect, philanthropy, humor, extraordinary heart and, like his wife Germaine, his most marked characteristic - compassion. We know he is surrounded by books and loved ones who have gone before, having a fine cigar and walking his beloved Tad. He will forever be in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him - suffice it to say that the world of his daughter, family and friends will never be quite the same again. His family respectfully suggests that should donations be made in Paul McWilliams' memory, The McWilliams Scholarship Fund at Heritage Community Initiatives or Animal Friends be considered. Friends will be received at JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS, INC. (freyvogelfuneralhome.com) on Wednesday from 3-7 p.m. Funeral Thursday in Calvary Episcopal Church at 10:30 a.m. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb

PETER J. KING OF MORNINGSIDE, ...

PETER J. KING Of Morningside, on Sunday, September 1, 2019, at the age of 81. Pete King was an affable, smart, wonderful man. A comprehensive list of his accomplishments are too numerous to fit here (and also too difficult to locate because of his modesty). Pete practiced law as a revered member of the Allegheny County Bar for 53 years before retirement. A tremendous supporter of the Bar Association's annual Bench Bar conference, you could find him in the Young Lawyers Division suite (through his 70's) participating as a past president in the Pass the Gavel ceremony. Pete was the first Editor-in-Chief of the Duquesne University Law Review and often reflected fondly on his time there. In 1998, he received the Meritorious Service Award from Duquesne, which he regarded as an enormous honor. More importantly than his many professional accomplishments, Pete was a guy you wanted to spend time with. He was funny and smart. He had an impeccable reputation for being fair and thoughtful. He loved to tell stories. It would be difficult if not impossible to find a person who knew him and didn't love and respect him as a lawyer, and even more as a person. Most of all though, particularly in his later years, he loved to spend time with his family. On Sundays, you could find him sitting cross-legged on a bar stool in his den, drink in one hand and pen in the other, watching the Steelers and keeping track of the wins and losses for the family's competitive weekly pool. The loss of his warm smile and friendly guidance will be felt by many. Pete is survived by his wife, Dolly King; his children, Linda A. King (Mariah Passarelli), Carole King (Chip Burke) and Ronald King (Anne Allen King); his grandchildren, Griffin, Sean and Alaina King, Charlie, George, Sam and Amy Burke and Bennett and Spencer Passarelli; preceded in death by his brother, Francis J. King. Friends received at McCABE BROS., INC. FUNERAL HOME, 6214 Walnut Street, Shadyside on Wednesday, 2-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Raphael Church on Thursday at 10 a.m. Entombment to follow at Allegheny Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Pete's name to DePaul School for Hearing and Speech, www.depaulhearingandspeech.org/donate. PETER VICTOR QUIGLEY ON SATURD...

PETER VICTOR QUIGLEY On Saturday, August 31, 2019, of Mt. Lebanon, PA, loving and devoted husband, son, brother and father of three, lost his life at the age of 46. Pete was born in Willoughby, OH, on July 5, 1973 to the late David B. Quigley and Linda (McGriff) Kalman. After high school, Pete attended The Ohio State University, graduating in 1998 with a degree in Natural Resources. While at OSU, Pete met his best friend and future wife, Kara Kohli. During their time at school, Pete and Kara could often be found sharing beers and stories on N. High Street. Pete and Kara were married in 2000 and shortly thereafter moved to Mt. Lebanon to build their life together in a community they grew to love. In 2003, they celebrated the birth of their first son, Keegan, followed by daughter, Reagan in 2005 and son, Kyle in 2008. Their home was rounded out first by Gunnar, a chocolate lab, then Rudy, a slightly rotund English Bulldog, and finally Duke, a Weimaraner. These three very different dogs all adopted the same habit of snacking for sport. Pete valued hard work and diligence but never at the expense of creating memories with his family and friends. Although he had a long and successful career in the oil and gas industry, his most prized role was being a dad. And Pete was, by all accounts, a phenomenal dad. Pete spent his weekends on the ice watching Keegan and Kyle play hockey or on the lacrosse field supporting Reagan. More than anything, he loved spending time at the family home in Ft. Pierce. Ft. Pierce was a special place for Pete. He grew up visiting his grandfather's, and then his father's, house on North Hutchison Island, ultimately creating memories there with his own family. Pete was nothing if not active and fun-loving, and his love for adventure was infectious. Quigley vacations did not include lazy days snoozing on the beach. Quigley vacations meant skiing in Park City, cross country explorations, weekends at Devils Lake in Michigan, and fishing excursions. Pete was not one to sit still. If he was awake, he was working, playing, or, if everyone was asleep (like those early mornings in Ft. Pierce), finding tasks to do around the house. Pete was a very lucky man, as were all of us who knew and loved him. Beyond his close-knit family, he was loved, deeply loved, by a circle of lifelong friends. Pete fit more life in his 46 years than most can hope to do in twice that time. He lived abundantly and without regret and would want all of us to make him proud and keep his legacy alive by doing the same. There is a space in the hearts of all those close to Pete that will never be filled. Pete was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother, wife and children, two brothers, and many nieces and nephews. Familly and friends welcome Thursday, September 5th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, 1650 Greentree Rd., Scott Twp., 15220 (412-563-2800).
