EDMOND M. SANCTIS Age 93, of Cranberry Twp., passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 7, 2019. Born April 3, 1926, son of the late Michael and Catherine Sanctis. Beloved husband of Carole (Wilson) Sanctis, whom he married on June 19, 1954, having recently celebrated their 65th anniversary; loving father of Terence (Joni), Michael (Cheryl), Edmond (Shelli), and Kristin Sanctis; dear grandfather of Ryan, Zachary, Lindsay, Wilson, Aaron, Dean, and Julian, and “pappy” to two granddogs, Nico and Prima; brother of Shirley Cattaneo, Carol Caputo, and the late Betty Jean Healey, and uncle to over 12 nieces and nephews. Ed lived his life in a most honorable and respectful way, a perfect example of the Greatest Generation. He proudly served his country in WWII, deploying to the Pacific, defending our great country no matter the cost. He lost many friends to the war, and has kept their spirits alive through the years, regaling all with stories of time spent in the Navy. He spent most of his working career in sales in the construction industry after working with his father at Sanctis Construction where they were responsible for many large construction projects all around the city of Pittsburgh. He retired as treasurer and director of First South Savings. He enjoyed his long retirement playing golf, cheering on Notre Dame football, attending mass faithfully, spending quality time with family and friends and doting on the ‘granddogs' that were a part of his life over the years. His memory was ironclad, and provided his children and grandchildren with such detailed family history that the memories will live on for generations. He will be forever remembered for his quick wit, one-liners, and sense of humor. Family and friends welcome Wednesday from 6-8 p.m., and Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME OF CRANBERRY, 2678 Rochester Road, Cranberry Twp. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 am at St. Kilian Parish, Cranberry Twp., officiated by Rev. Charles Bober. Interment will be held at The National Cemetery of The Alleghenies. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edmonds name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. ROGER LEE STUART On Friday, August 30, 2019, Roger Lee Stuart passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He will be remembered, not for the way he was when he left this world, but for the way he was when he lived in it. He will be remembered as a true gentleman, honest and sincere in all things, a brilliant but humble engineer and math genius, a loving husband to the wife that he adored, a wonderful father to his three daughters. He was always kind and gentle even in the most troublesome of times, he did the right thing for no other reason than it was the right thing to do, and he was a spiritual man who never stopped loving his God. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley Joanne McCauley Stuart; his three daughters, Pamela Jaye Stuart Stanich, Rachel Ann Stuart Garey, and Sarah Lynn Stuart Faith; and his four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. We have no words to describe the hole in our hearts that is left with his passing. “Now cracks a noble heart. Good night, sweet prince, And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.” Roger Lee Stuart. 01/05/1936-08/30/2019. May he Rest In Peace. HOLLAND BARRY & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME is assisting the family. SHIRLEY MAE (MARCUS) STEIN Shirley Mae Stein (Marcus), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend, passed away on September 9, 2019 in Pittsburgh. She was 93. A lifelong resident of Pittsburgh, Shirley graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and worked as a professional before it was commonplace for women. She spent her career at Sears (ultimately, as Buyer for Women's Apparel) until her retirement. Shirley was happily married to Simon Stein for 48 years, until his death in 2008. She rejoiced in family - especially her grandchildren, nieces, nephews and their children - and delighted in making meals for gatherings large and small. Shirley is fondly remembered for her ability to make friends with people and to express caring wherever she went. No birthday, anniversary or other occasion went unrecognized. She had close, lifelong friendships with female cousins and women she met as far back as kindergarten. She took an active interest in everyone's life, whether it was her grandchildren and grandnieces, neighbors, hairdresser, or the staff at the Penn Avenue Fish store who supplied her with whitefish and pike for her homemade gefilte fish for all Jewish holiday celebrations. Shirley was a former board member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Charles Morris Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She volunteered there and at Presbyterian SeniorCare - Woodside Place, going on field trips with residents of both institutions. An avid mahjong player, she played a weekly game for decades with cousins and friends. She is survived by her children, Leon Stein (Jennifer) and Linda Stein (Dan Doyle); grandchildren, Lisa McKarns (Tom), David Stein (Melanie), Ben and Jon Doyle; great-grandchildren, Kate Sickles (Michael), Jack and Will McKarns, Hannah and Taggart Stein, and Sammy Doyle; and great-great-granddaughter, Eliza Sickles. She was aunt to nieces, Marsha Heller, Joan Marcus (Adrian Bryan-Brown), and Abby Savitz (Nate); great-aunt to Michael Kamens (Carmel), Debby Adamo (Rich), Mindi Feldstein (Marc), Rachel Dragotta, (Phil), Sarah Savitz (Dan Stafura); great-great-aunt to Amanda and Courtney Kamens, Lilly and Jennifer Adamo, Carolyn Feldstein, and Amelia and Talia Dragotta. She was sister-in-law to Victor Stein, Allen Stein (Marilyn), and Ruth (Stan) Jonas and beloved aunt to the Goldstein and Stein cousins, who adored her. In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her mother, Sarah Marcus; father, Abraham; brothers, Bernard and “Cookie” (Raymond); sister, Lillian Heller (Alex); and niece, Carolyn Kamens (Aaron). The family extends special gratitude to Earlene Halliwell, who was a great friend and caretaker to Shirley during her recent illness. Graveside services will be held at Beth Shalom Cemetery on Tuesday, September 10th at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Hillman Cancer Center.
