ESTHER B. (KLAVON) AVON Age 94, of Polish Hill, peacefully, on Saturday, August 29, 2020. Beloved wife of the late Michael R. Avon; loving mother of twins, Steven M. (Helen) Avon, Sr. and Susan (Rick) Spodobalski; devoted grandma of Melissa (Edward) Giebel and Steven M. (Nicole) Avon, Jr.; cherished great-grandma of Hallie Elizabeth, Liam Anthony, Dylan Andrew and Sophia Lynn; daughter of the late Anthony and Sophie (Bakaj) Klavon; sister of Dolores (the late Paul) Scanlon; also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Esther was one of the initial crossing guards with the city of Pittsburgh who retired to become a caregiver to her parents. It gave her great joy spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Esther was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Rosary Society. BARBARA J. (HIBBS) HILLWIG Age 74, of North Huntingdon, died Monday, August 24, 2020, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. She was born November 11, 1945, in Akron, Ohio, a daughter of the late Clifford and Catherine E. (Steinel) Hibbs. Barbara retired from USX Corp, where she was employed as a manager at the USX Monroeville Technical Center. She was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and earned her master's degree from Carnegie Mellon University. In 2015, Barbara was invited into the Carnegie Mellon University Order of the May, which celebrates her achievement of 25 consecutive years of giving. Barbara was a lover of animals and owned many dogs, including six Scottish Terriers. She was an avid supporter of Scottish Terriers Rescue of the Southeast. Barbara is survived by her husband of 54 years, Donald A. Hillwig; and their Scottish Terrier, Lenny; brothers and sisters, Rebecca, Pamela and Roger (Joy) Hibbs, Sara Cousins, Penelope (Jack) Lane and Teresa (David) Pergola; nephews, Michael Hibbs and Bill Cousins; nieces, Michell and Alishia Cousins. Friends will be received on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the OTT FUNERAL HOME, INC., 805 Pennsylvania Avenue, Irwin. FREDERICK G. WHITE Age 82, of Scott Township passed away on September 1, 2020. Born on August 26, 1938, he was the son of the late Dorothy and Richard White. Beloved husband of Mary Louise White of 55 years; loving father of Keith (Donna) White, Kevin (Jackie Rabbitt) White, and Kristen (Robert) Crismond; cherished grandfather of 10 and great-grandfather of five; dear brother of Charles White and the late Arlene White; also survived by nieces. Fred loved spending time golfing and enjoyed sitting poolside. He enjoyed playing solitaire and watching Jeopardy. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. JOYCE ANN (RAAKER) AUGENSTEIN Age 89, peacefully passed on to heaven at her longtime home in Bethel Park. Born to Andrew and Luverne Raaker on December 1, 1930, in Covington, KY. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John, of 57 years. She is survived by her sister, Judith Smith; and her children, Jonilee (Wayne, deceased) Matragras, Jay (Sue), Jodi (Dan) Nilski, Jeff (Lynne), Jim, Jill, Jack and Jocelyn (Shawn) Conroy. She was our loving matriarch with twenty-two grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mom was the most patient, upbeat person and laughed as hard as she loved. There will be a mass in celebration of her life on Saturday, September 5th at 10 a.m. St. Thomas More Church. DONALD B. KING Age 85, of Beechview, on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, passed away comfortably and peacefully at home. He was ready for God to take him home. Donald is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marian; his children, Janice King, Joanne (Larry) Reilly and Jacqueline (John) Daniele; grandchildren, Leon (Joy) King-Kaduck, Jeremy (Christi) King-Kaduck, Brianna Stitt, John Paul and Julianna Daniele; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Kayla King; several nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom he loved and will miss him dearly. Donald was predeceased by his parents; sister, Anna Tiglio; brother-in-law, Vincent (Donna still surviving) Masur; and grandson, Dustin King-Kaduck. JOE LAUER Age 70, of Mt. Lebanon, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2020. He was the loving father of Brian Lauer, Jenna (Kevin) Kirkpatrick, Devon (Kristen) Lauer and the late Chris Lauer; proud grandfather of Addison and Aiden Kirkpatrick; son of the late Sylvester and Grace Lauer; and beloved partner of Janice Welch. He is also survived by cousin, Diane Baskind, and many other members of his extended family. Joe was a standout athlete in high school in both football and track for both South Hills Catholic and Chartiers Valley during the late 60's; later in life becoming passionate about golf. Although a great athlete, he was much more than that; Joe was very insightful, very creative and could sell anything to anybody. His charm and personality were very open and he captured the hearts of all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends as he was loved by all. DONALD E. PERKO Age 88, of Moon Township, Coraopolis, PA, passed peacefully on Tuesday evening September 1, 2020. Born April 29, 1932 in Santiago, PA to the late Albert and Isabella (Andreini) Perko. Donald graduated as a member of the first class of West Allegheny High School 1950 and went on to graduate from Duquesne University. He spent his entire career with RCA. He enjoyed the outdoors, tending to a large garden, and cheering on all Pittsburgh sports teams. He was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, SNPJ Lodge #106 Imperial, the McDonald VFW, and the McDonald Rod and Gun Club. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He is survived by his two sons, Jeffrey Perko and Mark Perko; and a daughter, Donna Grady. KATHY MEREDYTHE (PLOSKUNAK) GONZALEZ Kathy Meredythe (Ploskunak) Gonzalez, of Vowinkel and Pittsburgh, died quietly at her home in Pittsburgh on September 2nd after a long battle with breast and ovarian cancer. She was the daughter of Stephan and Judith Ploskunak (deceased) of Iselin, PA; and sister of Steve (Butch) (deceased) Ploskunak and Georgia Brosko. She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer (Paul) McComb and Raquel (Matthew) Kramer; and her grandsons, Alex and Peter Kramer and Henry and Samuel McComb, as well as a niece and multiple nephews. Kathy returned to school after starting her family to earn a Bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh in Clinical Dietetics and then a Master's degree in Education from Penn State. She worked as a clinical dietician for many years at St. Margaret's Hospital and Suburban General Hospital. She spent the last 17 years of her career as a Vice President at Metz and Associates driving the highways and back roads of Pennsylvania visiting school, hospital, and nursing home accounts. She knew the location of every Sheetz in the state and could rattle off the best way to get anywhere in Pennsylvania without consulting a map. She enjoyed all sorts of craft work especially knitting, needlepoint, and quilting. After she retired from Metz, she worked at a quilt shop in Brookville, PA – mostly for the advice from her co-workers and for the shop discount. All of us who loved her have a variety of quilts, sweaters, pillowcases, afghans, and Christmas ornaments that she specifically made for us. Kathy was an avid traveler and visited six of the seven continents in her lifetime. She floated down the Amazon to see the rainforest, explored the Canadian tundra to see polar bears, went bird watching in Costa Rica and Belize, and journeyed to India to hear the Dalai Lama teach. She loved learning about the Civil War, and her last adventure was a boat trip down the Mississippi River to explore the southern battlegrounds she had not yet seen. She had many places she still wanted to visit with her children and grandsons. Kathy was planning to take them to Alaska this August for an adventurous week exploring, fishing and hiking. She lost her beloved Labrador Retriever, Barney, several months before her own death, and we know she is now peacefully walking the trails with him. Jennifer and Raquel want to thank Dr. Jane Raymond and the oncology team at Allegheny General Hospital for their 14+ years of excellent care and advice as well as the St. Barnabas Hospice team (particularly Sarah, Lisa, Beth Ann, and Karen) for their guidance and support. JEFFREY SCOTT MCLEAN On Tuesday, September 1, 2020, Jeffrey Scott McLean, loving husband and father of two children suddenly passed away at the age of 56. Jeff was born on December 27, 1963, in Pittsburgh, PA to Robert and Jean (Hart) McLean. Jeff attended North Hills High School and received his Bachelor's degree, while playing football, for the University of Richmond in 1985. On August 31, 1996, Jeff married the love of his life, Debbie (Krol) McLean. They raised two sons, Mitchell and Joshua. Jeff was an avid sports fan. He especially loved his Pittsburgh Steelers. He was known for his quick wit, his loyalty to family and friends, his love of golf, his Sunday morning paper crossword puzzles and especially his infectious laugh! St. Patrick's Day will forever be known as “Jeff McLean Day” by all who knew him! Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Robert and mother, Jean. He is survived by his wife, Debbie; his two sons, Mitchell and Joshua; his brothers, Brad (Roseanne) and Rob (Nancy) McLean; several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. He was one of the good ones! Family and friends will be received at DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME OF CRANBERRY, 2678 Rochester Road, Cranberry Twp, PA Friday from 4-8 p.m. Parting prayers and interment will be held privately with immediate family Saturday.
